Eating Local....Firehouse Cafe`

The boys & I stopped by Firehouse Cafe` in downtown Fairmont last week.

I'm always a little leery of taking kids to new restaurants, especially downtown.  I always worry if they'll be "kid friendly".

No such worries with this place.  It's owned by my friend Monica and her husband Mark.  Monica also has a small slew of kiddos so I knew this would be a good place for us.

The menu was simple and reasonably priced.  As usual, I got the special.  A fish sandwich with a side of pasta salad and sweet tea.  The fish was a breaded cod on grilled texas toast with lettuce and cheese.  What made it great, however, was the sauce.  No typical tarter sauce here.  It was a creamy, slightly seasoned mayo based sauce with just a little kick.  I wish she would have sold me that sauce by the quart jar!  Yum.

The boys were all adventurous and had....hot dogs.  Actually, we hardly ever have hot dogs, so it's not an unusual order for them when we're out.

Clean plate club!

The four of us ate for $16, including drinks.  Not too bad.

From what I hear, they have great hand breaded nuggets....not those ground mystery meat blobs - real chicken breast, but I think those are a daily special.  I could smell the chili cooking as we were leaving and it smelled wonderful.

They also have a full selection of speciality coffees and espressos.  You can check out their Facebook page here.

Thanks Firehouse Cafe!

We liked it. I'm hoping to go sometime when they have the nuggets...I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I love the FireHouse Cafe and yes, it is completely kid friendly, too! The chicken nuggets are amazing...you'll have to make it back there to give them a try! My little guy loves the mini pumpers, too- little homemade hot donuts. Can you say YUM!?!?!
