01 October 2012

Menu Plan Monday for October 1st.

WooHoo!  It's Fall ya'll.

I love Fall.  It's by far my favorite season.  Crisp mornings, changing leaves, sweaters, pumpkins and of course, football.  One of my favorite things about living in West Virginia is the changing seasons.  Don't get me wrong, I can understand the appeal of living at the beach - and especially mild winter temperatures.  But I would miss the changing seasons.

We're starting our gear up for winter.  Ronnie spent part of Saturday sprucing up our generator and building shelves in our cellar.  Acts of service make my heart swoon.
While he was busy doing that, I took the boys to Storywalk in downtown Fairmont.  We've gone the past three years and always have a good time.

We heard stories from Mother Goose, made crafts with the library staff, learned about water safety from the Coast Guard, and my homeschooling boys favorite:

Toured a school bus!

I then came back home to can-a-palozza once again.  I finished up the green beans, deboned and canned several chickens, and have finished all but a 1/2 bushel of apples (out of two bushel).  I'm planning on using the last half bushel for one round of apple pie filling and anything left I'm going to dehydrate for oatmeal this winter.

I'm giving my slow cooker a work out with this weeks menu:

Monday:  Spaghetti, salad & garlic bread.
Tuesday:  Chili with all the fixins.
Wednesday:  Baked potato bar - using leftover chili
Thursday:  Honey grilled chicken, green beans and applesauce
Friday:  Pizza night
Saturday:  Harvest Fest at our church.
Sunday:  Pancakes & eggs.

Saturday is a big day for us.  We have our church's annual Harvest Fest at 6pm.  But this year, we'll be a little late.  I splurged on tickets to Blue Man Group.  They're coming to Morgantown.  I'm so excited!  I'm taking Josh & John with me.  I told Ronnie that it's time the boys learn there's more to life than hunting, fishing and video games.  I'm actually taking them to two shows this year.  Josiah is still a little young for me to shell out that kind of cash.  I'm just not sure he'll sit through it yet.  He & Daddy will have some alone time, which is also important.  The show starts at 3, then we'll rush to the church, change clothes and enjoy what's left of the Harvest Fest.

If your nearby and you don't have plans for Saturday night, come on over!  It is a blast...and it's free.

haha...3 of my meals are the same as yours this week (well, 4 if you count harvest fest). I wanted to go to that storywalk but we had some basement flooding issues and I had to go to my grandparents house just to take a shower :(. Maybe next year, it really looks fun!
