11 February 2013

Menu Plan Monday for February 11th.

Birthday week has finally come to an end.  It really was great to not have to cook a majority of last week.  Hmmm....I wonder if I can pull off birthday month?

This week is back to normal with the exception of Valentine's Day.  We'll be eating at home on Thursday with the boys and going out on Friday while the boys have a sleepover for their cousin Shawn's birthday.

Oh, wait!  I know what I wanted to tell you!  Have you ever had God lay something on your heart and then next thing you know your husband is saying the same thing?  I love when that happens.  It happened just Saturday for me.  I've been feeling for a while like we should be doing more with our family and friends.  I even made it one of my goals for 2013.  Honestly, this is going to sound awful, but one of the reasons I don't entertain more is because of our house.  It's a great house, but we home school, we work - a lot, we have a lot of responsibilities and while I've come to accept that in this season in our lives we will not have a spotless home, it's still hard for me to have people over sometimes.  Anyway, Ronnie brought up to me on Saturday that he really wants us to make a priority of having family over for dinner more often.  Like something that we put on the schedule and actually do.  It was just the nudge I needed to actually do it.  We're starting this week by having his Mom & Dad over and this weekend we're having my Mom and her husband over for dinner.  It's not like we don't see them all the time, but it's nice to spend time together with nothing to do but enjoy each other's company.

That being said, here's our menu:

Monday:  Creamy broccoli and chicken casserole, rice and applesauce.
Tuesday:  Leftovers
Wednesday:  Pork stir fry and rice.
Thursday:  Pizza with pepperoni cut into hearts, strawberry spinach salad.
Friday:  Date night.
Saturday:  Birthday party.
Sunday:  Pot roast with potatoes and carrots.

I understand that! For years I was embarrassed to have ppl over bc my living room was either junky with ugly walls or being remodeled. Now its better, but my friends and fam often reminded me they were there to see us, not the house! Enjoy ur family time!!

I completely understand. We just have to get past the pride of having everything all together. When my kids hit their teen years then company for them showed up at all hours. I had to adjust my expectations of life and enjoy the people with dishes in my sink. Also, the Simmons family and Guire family participate in pajama breakfast on Saturdays- here. The kids come in their pajamas and NiNi (me) stays in her flannels or sweats, hair up in a ponytail, glasses on. You can't get any more humble than that.

We love having company. When we lived in Poland and Lithuania, our company was the locals. We loved it. One day in Poland, we were expecting company around 4pm. Okay, I was expecting company and hubby failed to tell me they would be coming after church. So, here I am sitting in the living room waiting for the older kids to arrive home after church and in walks my guests! Three of them! The house looked like - well - it looked like I had five kids. They actually had to walk over things to get to the living room. I was mortified. Yet, when I said something, they looked at me and said, "Oh, don't worry about it. We are used to it." It sounds bad, but I got to thinking about how silly it is to worry about the status of my house when Yes, I have kids. But, more important true friends and family don't come to see the house. They come to see you. Keep that in mind as you enjoy the fellowship with friends and family. If people love you, they come to see you.
